K-Array joins the network with K-Dante

Existing products from the K-Array catalogue are now Dante compatible thanks to the arrival of K-Dante, a two channel AES to Dante interface. Available as an accessory, it is compatible with the manufacturer’s Concert Series, KA24 and KA84 amplifiers and all Mark I products.

K-Dante is described by the manufacturer as an ‘uncompressed, multi-channel networking accessory’, designed to bolt onto the rear panel of K-Array loudspeaker enclosures. It features two RJ45 Ethernet connectors and reportedly offers ‘all the modern capabilities of a router’, including claiming its own IP address and broadcasting its presence over the network.

Power for the unit is either via a supplied cable linked to the 5V connector on a K-Array amplifier, or any standard USB charger with a micro-USB connector. The interface uses an XLR cable to connect to an amplifier’s digital input and transmit two channels in AES/EBU. Another XLR cable then connects the K-Dante to the amplifier’s RS485 input to transmit data and access all the amplifier’s functions via K-framework software.
