KBCs new broadcast range

KBC Networks has announced the launch of a new series of environmentally-hardened broadcast products.

The range features digital video fibre interfaces and electrical splitters designed to operate in unconditioned environments.

The new broadcast products are built to perform in outdoor and industrial locations, where fibre plays a critical role in overall system design. The manufacturer claims the units are ideal for CCTV control room applications, where large, flat-screen monitors are used. They can also be used where video information is broadcast from a central location to multiple monitors, for example, passenger information screens in airports and railway stations. The range includes DVI, HDMI, 3G-SDI and HD-SDI standalone fibre units as well as a multi-interface ‘computer on a fibre’ interface (which takes the interfaces found on a standard computer and transmits them all on one singlemode fibre to a remote base unit). The fibre interfaces enable video transmission distances to be extended over a single multimode or singlemode fibre.

Iain Deuchars, MD of KBC Networks EMEA commented on the motive behind the new series: ‘Digital video, such as DVI and HDMI is becoming common place in CCTV systems at the control room end and this, coupled with opportunities in the video distribution market, became the catalyst to develop our broadcast product range. The current range covers basic fibre interfaces and electrical splitters, and we’re now working on new products to enhance the range further.’

The KBC electrical splitters generate multiple paths (2, 4, 8, 12 and 16) from a single DVI or HDMI video input. The interfaces provide EDID (on the DDC line) via a ‘loop-though’ port and offer a display resolution of WUXGA (1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz) and HDTV up to 1080p. With an operating temperature range of between -30 and +70-degrees C, KBC’s all-digital broadcast products are available as wall-mount, compact and 19-inch rack units.
