Kramer troubleshoots HDMI systems with test pattern generator

Kramer’s 840Hxl is a new tool designed for troubleshooting HDMI systems. Particularly suited for testing and adjusting projectors, flat panel LCD displays and DVI cables, the 840Hxl can generate 32 preset patterns at 16 predefined resolutions.
With regards to its troubleshooting functionality, a user can easily select the pattern, resolution, the colour depth and space of the output HDMI signal, either through the device’s front panel buttons or the included computer software. In addition, the 840Hxl includes extensive audio capabilities, allowing a user to change the unit’s sampling frequency (44kHz, 48kHz, 88kHz, 96kHz, 176kHz and 192kHz) and bit depth (16 bit, 20 bit and 24 bit).
A key feature is the 840Hxl’s ability to read and adapt to the display’s Edid (Extended Display Identification Data), which is due to an ‘Output Native Resolution’ setting that reads the detailed mode line of the native resolution of the display’s Edid, and then sets its output to send the optimum resolution to the connected display. According to the manufacturer, this makes the tool operate less like a test pattern generator and more like a computer graphics card that can adapt to whatever is connected to it. In addition, the unit has the ability to setup and store seven user−defined resolutions.
The test patter generator can also toggle HDCP on and off, allowing a user to individually isolate the HDCP signal with one button to determine whether HDCP is the reason that a source is not working.
In another product announcement, the manufacturer has released the VS−88DTP 8x8 DVI twisted pair matrix switcher, which can route any or all inputs to any or all DGKat twisted pair outputs simultaneously.
The HDTV-compatible unit works by reclocking and equalising the signal, and boasts a maximum input data rate of 1.65Gbps and has a system range of up to 90m at 1080i, or up to 30m at 1080p with a Kramer shielded BC−DGKat524 cable. However, with a BC−DGKat623 cable, it has a range of up to 90m at 1080i or up to 70m at 1080p, whilst with a shielded BC−DGKat7a23 cable, it can extend up to 100m at 1080i or up to 90m at 1080p.
The VS−88DTP features Kramer’s re−Klocking and Equalisation and DGKat signal integration technologies, has eight DVI−D inputs on DVI−I connectors, eight DGKat twisted pair outputs on RJ−45 connectors, and employs a host of features optimised for ease of use. These include its front panel lockout button and the fact that it can be controlled via the front−panel touch switches, through its serial RS−232 and RS−485 ports, via Ethernet, or by the included IR remote control.
The unit also includes K−Router Windows−based control software, Ethernet configuration manager and virtual serial port manager, boasts 16 memory locations, and employs Kramer’s I−EDIDPro.
