L-Acoustics goes louder and lower

L-Acoustics has added to its low end options with a new reference subwoofer. The dual 18-inch KS28 extends the bandwidth down to 25Hz, providing low frequency resolution and a maximum SPL of 143dB in a 79kg bass reflex enclosure.

Measuring 550mm-high x 702mm-deep x 1340mm-wide, the new subwoofer incorporates six handles, whilst integrating a flush fitting two point rigging system for quick deployment. Finished in the distinctive L-Acoustics’ dark grey (426C) and constructed in beech/birch plywood, the KS28 can be deployed in either standard or cardioid configuration.

The KS28 boasts an additional 3dB of SPL when driven by the new LA12X amplified controller. The amplified controller can provide 12,000W of power in addition to a DSP-controlled Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) with Power Factor Correction (PFC). Capable of supplying up to 3,300W per-channel, the unit can operate between 100 and 240V whilst reportedly offering the highest tolerance to unstable mains power. The boosted DSP resources are future proofed with AVB, whilst the four-in by four-out architecture is intended to strengthen the appeal of the LA12X in both rental and install sectors.

In addition to the LA12X, the French manufacturer has developed an updated touring rack, reportedly offering worldwide compatibility, in the form of the LA-Rak II.
