Lab.gruppen unveils ‘breakthrough’ IPD Series
Published: PRODUCTS
Claiming to represent ‘a breakthrough’ in networked and DSP-enabled power amplifiers, Lab.gruppen has introduced its new IPD (Intelligent Power Drive) Series. In a first for the manufacturer, the compact series unite Lab.gruppen’s performance and reliability with DSP features.
Through a combination of comprehensive connection, control and monitoring functionality, the manufacturer has strived to ensure that the IPD Series is suited to the demands of fixed install applications as well as the rigours of touring audio.
Described as being ‘surprisingly affordable’, the feature-rich 1RU IPD Series offers two power configurations (IPD 1200 and IPD 2400) with power outputs (at 4-ohms) of 2 x 600W and 2 x 1,200W respectively. Weighing 4.6kg (the IPD 1200) and 6.2kg (the IPD 2400), both models incorporate integrated DSP, networked monitoring and control via computer or iPad, a four-channel input matrix, fully configurable front panel controls with a graphic display, analogue and AES3 inputs (with redundant fail-over) and Lab.gruppen limiters.
At the heart of the IPD Series platform is the DSP engine, equipped with a total of 40 real-time, multi-slope parametric EQs along with adjustable gain, input delay, output delay and high-pass and low-pass filters adjustable to any frequency. A Software Configurable Voltage Peak Limiter (SCVPL) tailors outputs to load conditions in order to main audio quality, while a four-channel input mixer provides flexible input routing. Parameters may be stored in up to 100 user-defined presets, and all processing power is harnessed for easy use through the touch-based GUI of IntelliDrive Controller. Available for PC, Mac and as a dedicated iPad app, this software interface is intended to enable fast and accurate remote system tuning over Ethernet or wirelessly via a suitable WiFi router.
Extensive rear-panel connections include paired XLR analogue inputs with link outputs, XLR input and link output for AES3 digital, binding post and speakON output connectors with both channels available via one speakON, Ethernet networking connection and locking IEC power connector. Both models feature integrated rack handles, a backlit graphic display with horizontal VU meters, push-buttons for mute and menu navigation, and a rotary encoder.
Meanwhile, Lab.gruppen and AFMG have announced the integration of the latter’s FIRmaker technology within Lab.gruppen’s PLM Series. AFMG FIRmaker technology optimises line array performance via precisely calculated FIR filters, and supported systems can reportedly be tuned to any venue or setup within minutes.
