Lectrosonics keeps comms secure

When it comes to audio, security is not normally the first thing that springs to mind. For applications where privacy is a primary concern however, Lectrosonics has designed the Digital Secure Wireless System, employing AES-256-CT encryption. The system comprises the DR digital wireless receiver, DRM digital receiver modules, and the DB digital wireless beltpack transmitter.

The 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) provides a government-approved standard of encryption, and the CTR Encryption mode reportedly maintains a low latency of 2.5ms overall while keeping channel noise ‘at a minimum’. On board is a special chip responsible for entropy generation, ensuring the generated keys are truly random.

The DR digital wireless receiver – similar to the manufacturer’s Venue receiver module – supports up to 6 channels in a 1RU format. Analogue and digital XLR outputs are selectable on the device menu, and the frame supports wideband reception (470.100 to 691.175MHz), 50-ohm BNC antenna inputs, and outputs for cascading up to three additional frames (24 channels in total) on one set of antennas. The clock input and output enables the receiver to function as the master clock in a digital audio system or run as the slave. A ¼-inch headphone output can be fed from a mixture of channel signals, or from isolated channels.

The DRM digital receiver module docks into the DR digital wireless receiver frame and up to six modules can be docked per a single DR frame. Each receiver module has a 25.5MHz bandwidth and is available on all standard Lectrosonics frequency blocks.

The DB beltpack transmitter features wideband tuning (470-698MHz), a linear RF output stage (for reduced intermodulation distortion) and high channel counts. The transmitter provides 50mW transmission RF power and features a TA5M mic/line that accepts all lavaliere and headworn microphones wired for Lectrosonics transmitters.
