Lectrosonics targets location sound professionals with WM Watertight transmitter

The newest edition to Lectrosonics’ line of digital hybrid wireless microphone systems takes the form of the WM Watertight transmitter. Combining ‘cabled-microphone’ audio performance with a resistant housing designed to withstand harsh environments, the transmitter is targeted towards location sound professionals and theatrical applications.
The fully watertight transmitter employs a specially designed aluminium alloy case with sealed battery doors, an antenna port, and a microphone connector. Additionally, a backlit LCD plus large membrane buttons are incorporated into its design to facilitate easy operation even if a user is wearing gloves. The inclusion of digital hybrid wireless technology ensures a clean audio signal whist an isolated RF output reduces intermodulation issues between transmitters in close proximity to one another.
The new offering takes on a feature set similar to the manufacturer’s SMQV beltpack unit, and can take remote commands from the company’s RM remote control unit.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer has also released version 5.1 firmware for its Venue Wideband modular receiver system. A key feature of V5.1 is the inclusion of a ‘TalkBack’ function, which has been included to benefit broadcast, location, and sound reinforcement professionals.
When the transmitter is set to TalkBack mode and the function is engaged, the audio will switch to a different, predetermined, XLR on the back panel of the receiver. This functionality enables the transmitter to control audio routing, which is useful for situations that require real time communication between users.
It is possible to have multiple transmitters using a common TalkBack channel XLR, and in order for this functionality to operate on the Venue receiver, at least one empty slot is required in the mainframe.
