Lewitt reveals flagship studio microphone

Vienna-based studio specialist Lewitt has announced the launch of two tube microphones, one of which is its new flagship model.
That microphone is the LCT 940, which the manufacturer says combines ‘the specific characteristics of a premium large-diaphragm condenser microphone and a top-notch tube microphone in one housing’.
It was reportedly developed in response to engineers needing to rapidly switch between microphones during a single recording session depending on the required sound and style. Users can choose between two main settings – Crystal and Tube – as the LCT 940 contains both a tube-based and a FET-based impedance converter working independently of one another. The two settings can also be mixed stagelessly to suit the engineer’s taste.
Also on offer are nine different polar patterns, comprising omni-directional, cardioid, figure-of-8, wide- and super-cardioid plus four further intermediate patterns.
Sat one step down in the range meanwhile is the LCT 840, which boasts the same 1-inch capsule as the flagship, reportedly delivering a ‘warm and classic, solid vintage sound’. The model offers five switchable polar patterns plus a striking physical appearance – it is equipped with a specially coated and interference-resistant plexiglass inspection window on the front side of the body, so the illuminated tube itself is fully exposed.
