Linear Acoustic announces fleet of launches for Aero range

Broadcast audio control specialist Linear Acoustic has recently announced a wealth of launches and updates for its Aero series of product, including the arrival of Aero.Calm, which stands for Coded Audio Loudness Manager. Other announcements have included the Aero.lite loudness controller and updates to Aero.air and Aero.one.

Described as ‘the culmination of years of research into loudness control and audio and metadata processing’, Aero.Calm can reportedly control the loudness and dynamic range of a broadcast signal without affecting the original content. According to the manufacturer, the controller uses a hybrid of multiband audio analysis and metadata control to ensure that audio can be processed in a consumer-reversible manner, permanently for noncritical material, or anywhere in between. As a result, individual viewers can choose to hear the full range of the original content if they desire. Versions of AERO.calm are available to handle baseband AES/SDI audio, DVB-ASI, and transport stream over IP.

In contrast, Aero.lite has been designed specifically for emerging markets that do not require the full functionality of Linear Acoustic’s higher-cost products. It is, the company says, ‘an essentials-only Aero loudness controller worthy of the Linear Acoustic name’. The 1RU, stereo-only unit offers wideband and multiband processing and handles AES, HD/SD-/SDI, and analogue audio.

Elsewhere, the manufacturer has updated both its Aero.air and Aero.one processors. As a result, Aero.air is now slimmer and lighter in a 2RU chassis, while many previously optional upgrades have been made standard. Among them is HD/SD – SDI I/O, which allows the de-embedding and re-embedding of up to 16 channels of audio plus SMPTE 2020 (VANC) metadata; UPMAX-II, which is intended to provide a more spacious and stable 5.1 upmix from a stereo source; and CrowdControl for ensuring dialogue is preserved. The improved Aero.one also now includes HD/SD – SDI I/O as standard as well as dual power supplies.

Finally, Linear Acoustic has announced an update to its LQ-1000 loudness quality monitor, which now supports the ITU-R BS.1770-2 recommendation for measuring loudness, displaying the results on an OLED that groups critical loudness parameters like three adjustable integrated loudness measures, loudness history, current peak level, maximum peak level, and maximum loudness. HD/SD – SDI I/O is also supported, as is a simple manual ‘gain apply’ scaling function.
