Mackie extends lows with ELP

Mackie has debuted its ELP Bass Reflex System as a key component of its XR Series monitors. The system calls into action an extended-length, internally curved port which the manufacturer claims ‘delivers outstanding bass response and increased output capability’.
‘The new ELP porting system significantly extends bass response, but its unique design offers additional benefits,’ said Jon Rundle, Mackie product manager. ‘The port exit sits completely flush with the back of the cabinet, creating a zero turbulence design that significantly improves overall acoustic performance.’
Away from ELP, the two member XR Series monitors feature 8-inch (XR824) and 6.5-inch (XR624) iterations which both offer a logarithmic waveguide and adjustable acoustic space filters. The XR824 offers a frequency response of 36Hz to 22kHz, while the XR624 covers 45Hz to 22kHz. Both models feature a 160W Class-D amplifier, a Kevlar woofer and a 1-inch black anodised aluminium tweeter.
There are three different acoustic space settings that adjust for monitor placements close to walls or in corners. Plus, both high- and low-frequency EQ controls are available for final sonic adjustment to the mixing space. Other features include an eco-friendly auto on/off functionality that senses when a signal is present and turns that monitor on or off, a black wood grain finish plus the inclusion of acoustic isolation pads for each monitor.
