Makito X gains HEVC video encoding powers

The Makito X HEVC video encoder extends the capabilities of the Makito X H.264 video encoder to include dual-channel HEVC encoding, while also improving the quality and efficiency of IP video streaming. Haivision has designed the HEVC video encoder as a compact and lightweight solution that offers low latency video backhaul and transmission applications for where network bandwidth optimisation is required for high quality video. The Makito X HEVC is available in 1U and 4U rack-mount variations and supports up to six HEVC channels per rack unit.

The device provides the Makito X H.264 video encoder with two HEVC encoding engines that reportedly do not compromise the quality of the existing base four H.264 encoding engines. It incorporates the core features of Makito X, such as dual 3G-SDI inputs, HD video support, MBR streaming, extensive KLV metadata support and networking capabilities that include traffic shaping to optimise bandwidth performance, as well as the manufacturer’s SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) technology, which enables secure video delivery and firewall traversal over the internet.

Haivision has also developed the HEVC video encoder to be compatible with a diverse mix of HEVC capable broadcast decoders, soft players and set-top boxes, as well as the manufacturer’s own HEVC/H.264 transcoders and Media Gateway. To entice users that are on the fence with regards to transitioning towards HEVC streaming technology, the manufacturer is offering an upgrade programme and states that it will not disrupt a user’s current H.264 workflow.
