MDi powers up with RAM Audio

The MDi series is the latest Class-D amplifier design to be introduced to the fixed installation market from RAM Audio.

Incorporating a PFC ‘QuantaPulse’ switch-mode power supply and weighing between 5kg and 5.5kg, the 2-, 4- and 8-channel models vary between 1,400W and 12,000W RMS total output. A 70- /100-volt line direct / drive output version is also available. A comprehensive set of protections are integrated into all eight models including RAM Audio power management system (PMS), ICL (clip limiter) temperature, DC and turn-on. The inverted design avoids fan dust accumulation, which promotes front to back cooling and temperature control. The 350mm deep chassis comes with barrier strips and Phoenix connectors in addition to detented sealed and tamper proof potentiometers.

The launch of the PowerPack is the Spanish manufacturer’s first audio power module (APM) to be made available for speaker manufacturers. The APM3k and APM1k5 Class-D designs provide very low distortion and high current custom auxiliary voltages. Available as dual-channel 2x750W RMS @ 4 ohms and single channel 3,000W RMS @ 4 ohms versions, both modules weigh 500g and 400g respectively. The fully protected APMs have been designed with an oversized high bandwidth demodulation filter, whilst a bottom aluminium plate allows attachment to system heat sinks.

Idle dissipation is extremely low, allowing the APM to be continually powered-on, but can be further reduced if necessary by using the mute function via an external controller. The integrated fan driver is capable of driving a 24v/2W fan with a slow idle speed, which spins at a speed proportional to the module sensor temperature. A three-way power connector is included for the mains voltage, whilst a 16-way ribbon connector has been added or auxiliary supplies, control and report signals. The ribbon cable can allow daisy chaining to four modules with the same power supply.
