MicAmp 2 now compatible with Lunchbox

British manufacturer DACS is releasing a version of its MicAmp 2, which is physically compatible with the API Lunchbox 500, making the clarity, punch and detail of the MicAmp's design available to API users as a single Lunchbox channel.

The circuitry is unchanged, and operationally the MicAmp 500, as the new module is known, differs only slightly from the MicAmp 2. Offering up to 72dB of low-noise gain, and three bass roll-off settings, it is a versatile, high-quality mic preamp. The low-noise performance makes it suitable for high-quality condenser microphones and because the transistor gain stage is DC-coupled directly to the microphone while in non-phantom mode, it's also ideal for use with ribbon and dynamic microphones.

The PPM trajectory LED metering is intended to be just as informative as on the rack-mount MicAmp, and the overload LED makes an alert when signals are just below the clipping point. Protected by ultra-fast diodes, the MicAmp500 module can cope with a wide range of input signal levels.
