Mid-air effects from Martin Professional’s Mac III AirFX

Martin Professional is now shipping its Mac III AirFX beam, effects and wash luminaire. Capable of projecting a dense, hard-edge beam with mid-air aerial effects, the fixture’s optical system allows it to instantly adjust from a tight beam to a radiant wash.

The 1,500W fixture measures an output of almost 60,000 lumens, and can reportedly cut through light from even the most powerful LED screens. Key to its appeal is an aerial effects wheel that houses a set of four gobo designs, in addition to a range of interchangeable and indexable effects that can be continuously rotated. A variable iris is also included when a tight beam is required.

The luminaire houses a 1:5 zoom with auto-linked focus, and can focus through the entire zoom range and at varying throws. A key feature lies in the fact that beam gobos can adjust along the entire zoom whilst retaining a consistent light output – without any visible beam jump when going from tight to wide.

Adding to the list of key features is its 9-inch precision PC lens that produces a distinctive fat beam look, boasting less spill than micro-Fresnels. Meanwhile, an enhanced CMY colour mixing system provides a wide range of vibrant colours across the spectrum, plus a broad range of uniform pastels. In addition, a fixed colour wheel houses seven interchangeable slots for a broader range, and the colour gamut itself is complemented with a variable CTO.

The Mac III AirFX also houses a smooth dimming system with choice of four dimming curves, a separate shutter for fast and punchy strobe effects, as well as a total front lens blackout.

The manufacturer has also recently launched a new operating system for its M-Series lighting controllers, which encompass the M1, M2GO, M-PC and Maxxyz consoles. The version 2.90.400 software includes over 70 new features and upgrades, including a new operating system for Martin M1 and M2GO (Windows 7 embedded), added support for Matrox Dual and Triple Head for M1, and a touch-friendly menu system.

Optimised for SSD drives, the update also supports generic Windows 7 touchscreen devices and includes a new ELO touchscreen driver. Multiple consoles can be used in parallel for show playback, and due to a new ‘plug and play’ MaxNet System, version 2.90.400 offers a zero configuration device discovery, a network interface connection management with auto, static and EtherDMX shortcuts, and all playback operation and cue and preset data is synchronised.
