Modular discussions and more from AKG

Harman Professional brand AKG is describing its new CS3 Discussion System as a ‘modern, elegant, modular system’ with a wide variety of gooseneck microphone options that can be expanded up to 120 units. The arrival of the CS3 reportedly follows customer demand for a more simple, plug and play solution than the brand’s flagship CS5.

At the heart of the system is the 19-inch CS3 BU, a 2HE interface device that can control up to 60 delegate stations. The base station can either work independently or be remote controlled by a PC, whilst offering ‘multiple working modes’ to facilitate free or controlled speech as required during a conference. End-users can also double the system size via an extension plug and an additional CS3 BU.

Meanwhile, the chairman unit is named the CS3 CU and offers mute options plus a ‘next in line’ feature, a built-in speaker plus two 3.5mm stereo jacks for headphones, and a detachable condenser cardioid mic available in two lengths – the CS321 at 30cm and CS521 at 50cm. The Delegate units – the CS3DU 30 and CS3DU 50 – have the same basic features, without the priority and next in line function.

In other AKG news, the brand has also updated its C1000 S multipurpose condenser microphone for recording and live sound applications.

Described as ‘nearly indestructible’, the condenser has a metal chassis and specialised mic clip, while its gold capsule and XLR plugs make it humidity-proof. The updated version is also now powered by two AA batteries for convenience, while end-users can choose between two gain settings, three frequency settings and either cardioid or hypercardioid polar patterns.

Finally, the DMM6 and DMM12 digital automatic microphone mixers have been added to the brand’s portfolio, offering ‘intuitive user interfaces, numerous DSP functions and high signal to noise ratio’.

The DMM12 offers 12 inputs and four line outputs (two stereo), which are individually assignable for each input. The stereo record outputs are individually assignable, while the headphone out port allows users to listen to each input and output individually. The DMM6 offers six inputs and two line outputs.
