Moisture-resistant H6 headset target theatre applications

In an effort to blend ‘exceptional performance’ with an ultra-low profile design, Countryman Associates Inc has released the H6 headset microphone. Designed to offer a high level of moisture resistance, the microphone is available in omni and directional versions and is suited for a wide range of applications including theatre.

Taking on the same microphone capsule found in the manufacturer’s Countryman E6 omni earset mic, the H6 provides a ‘natural sound pick-up’ and boats a frequency response ranging from 20Hz to 20kHz. Measuring just 2.5mm in diameter, the H6 employs a lightweight and adjustable head frame that available in a choice of light beige, tan, cocoa, and black.

The H6’s moisture resistance has been designed with theatre or broadcast applications in mind, as users are often under hot lights causing them to perspire. As an example of how moisture-resistant the headset is, the manufacturer states that it can be entirely submerged in water without suffering any damage. Also, the microphone’s cable detaches at the headset and employs a new double-sealed watertight connector.

Meanwhile, the H6’s 1.2mm cable offers a break strength exceeding 20kg – a benefit for theatrical performers that frequently change costumes and accidently pull the cable. This interchangeable cable is also the interface to a multitude of wireless microphone systems. Switching among different wireless transmitter packs is designed to be as easy as swapping a cable, and the H6 and its various cables interface to nearly all wireless transmitters, digital recorders, or XLR mic inputs with phantom power.
