Monitor mixing gets personal with A&H iPad app

GLD OneMix is a new iPad app from Allen & Heath designed to provide musicians with wireless control of their personal monitor mix by locking control to a single Aux mix, providing instant access to a customised monitor mix environment.

Multiple iPads can be set up by an admin user to give numerous musicians personalised monitor control without affecting each other or the FOH main mix. A musician’s own aux monitor mix is assigned and locked into the ‘My Mix’ layer, and a selection of input splits dedicated to the individual musician can be added.
 
Depending on the application and the performer’s technical knowledge, the layout and level of access can be kept minimal or extended to a more complex musician’s monitor mix involving a high channel count across multiple layers.

Notably, the mix can be tweaked and listened to by both the user on stage and the sound engineer at the desk, enabling easy interaction between the two. Up to 16 iPads running OneMix can be connected to a GLD system.
 
Meanwhile, Allen & Heath has announced that it is also shipping its fourth generation MixWizards, comprising the WZ4 16:2, WZ4 12:2 and WZ4 14:4:2 models. All three feature enhanced styling and improved functionality, including EQ in/out switching and new dual digital effects engines on the 16:2 and 12:2 models, together with an optional USB multi-track recording and playback interface card.

Originally launched in the 1990s, the MixWizard mixers incorporate transparent mic pre-amps together with four-band EQ with two sweepable mids, 100mm faders, six auxiliary sends, 12 segment bar graph metering and a unique QCC connector system for desktop, rack or flight-case mounting.

The WZ4 16:2 comes with 16 mic/line inputs and two stereo returns, plus separate LR and mono faders, whilst the WZ4 12:2 has eight mono channels, two dual stereo channels and two stereo returns, separate LR and mono output faders. Both feature new stereo dual effects engines with a seven segment LED display as part of the improved user interface – which also includes tap tempo and an encoder to adjust effects parameters, providing an updated suite of 20 studio effects pre-sets. 

The WZ4 14:4:2 is a dual function mixer, with 10 mono inputs, two dual stereo inputs, four sub-groups, a 6 x 2 matrix for creating custom mixes, and an oscillator and pink noise generator for line-up and speaker testing.

Lastly, Allen & Heath has launched a new version of its compact broadcast mixer, the XB-14². Based on requests from broadcast users, the XB-14² incorporates several new features, including a dedicated audition bus, enhanced stereo channel configurations, updated mic preamps, more flexible monitoring, and a new matt paint finish.

Designed applications ranging from small radio or internet broadcast studios, to hospital radio, university radio, community radio and larger studios with multiple rooms, the XB-14² is equipped with a wealth of features designed specifically for broadcasters, including Telco inputs for telephone callers, mic fader start sensing for external connection and internal automatic muting of the speaker outputs, stereo channel start/cue outputs for transport control, multiple headphone outputs, and an additional stereo bus (Mix B).

The new model also includes a stereo Audition bus that allows individual channels to be switched away from the main programme bus for off-air monitoring.
