Multi-channel live recording solution from Roland Systems

Roland Systems Group recently launched the Roland Reac Driver Kit for its V-Mixing system. Sold separately from Sonar X1 Producer, the ‘cost effective’ kit is most suited for recording live performances in conjunction with V-Mixing system components.

The kit enables recording of 40 simultaneous audio tracks into Sonar X1 Producer software via one Cat-5e/6 cable from a Reac system to a PC Ethernet port. Although specifically intended for use with the manufacturer’s M-480, M-380, M-400, and M-300 consoles, the Reac Driver Kit is also compatible with Roland’s S-4000 and S-1608 digital snake systems.

In a further announcement, the manufacturer has also released firmware V1.5 for its M-480 V-Mixer console. The update is free, and boasts a wealth of beneficial new features – including increased DCA groups and a new scene fade function – which the manufacturer has incorporated in order to appeal to the theatre and broadcast markets.

Increasing the number of DCA groups from eight to 24 provides more power for larger or more complex applications, and fade time is now selectable up to 100 seconds. A further key feature is a ‘delay parameters’ option that can be set up to 1.2 seconds on any input or output channel, which is designed to be useful when longer times are required in video/streaming production or audio time alignment at large venues.

Five new channel effects include multi-band compression/expansion and four modelled BOSS compact effects – including OD/DS series (overdrive/distortion), DD-3 (digital delay), DM-5 (delay) and CE-1 (chorus ensemble).
