New Atlona scaler bridges gap between AV and IT

Atlona Technologies has announced the release of the AT-HSDI-VGA SDI to PC/HD scaler with audio, the latest addition to its Atlona Industrial line.
Described by the manufacturer as ‘ideal’ for the integration of SDI sources into standard A/V environments, the AT-HSDI-VGA converts SD, HD, and 3G SDI signals to component or VGA formats with resolutions up to 1080p or 1920x1200.
The unit’s built-in audio de-embedding allows digital (S/PDIF) or analogue –(two-channel) audio to be passed through to an amplifier. In addition, the AT-HSDI-VGA’s re-clocking technology reportedly allows SDI signals to be extended up to approximately 300 metres without incurring any signal degradation.
Said to be suited for government, education, broadcast, and healthcare applications by ‘bridging the gap between A/V and IT,’ the unit’s SD, HD, and 3G SDI signals can be converted to component or VGA video formats with resolutions up to 1080p for component, or 1920x1200 for VGA. For larger applications, the unit’s built-in equalised ports allow SDI signals to be expanded up to 100 metres with 3G, 200 metres with HD, and 300 metres with SD.
Also new from the manufacturer are its AT-PRO2HD88M and AT-PRO2HD1616M matrix switchers. These switchers extend HDMI sources – including full uncompressed HD video and audio, up to 100 metres at 1080p resolution over a single Cat 5/6/7 cable.
The units feature eight (8x8) or sixteen (16x16) inputs (respectively) with the same number of independently switchable twisted pair outputs to route to Atlona’s AT-PRO2HDREC and AT-PRO21616M-RX receiver modules.
The matrix switchers feature stereo pass-through to allow the routing of local source audio from the matrix head-end to zone receiver units, and preserve 7.1-channel digital audio, including DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD.
According to the manufacturer, the units ‘greatly’ simplify installations, and reportedly can save time and money for integrators. Supporting bidirectional RS-232 and IR is said to make the units ‘ideal’ for control and automation solutions such as Control4 and RTI. The matrix switchers also provide support for Deep Colour and HDCP.
