New transducer provides better control

DAS Audio has put its 18UXN4 low frequency transducer into action with the latest addition to its UX series of subwoofers, the UX-218A. The newly designed transducer is reportedly able to control the moving mass with high linearity due to the subwoofer’s double silicon spider.
Inside the birch plywood enclosure is a 102mm sandwich split winding voice coil, 52mm peak-to-peak excursion and an FEA-optimised neodymium magnet assembly. Lower distortion is thanks to the inclusion of an aluminium demodulating ring, while reduced power compression and a high thermal rating are granted by way of the ventilation provided by the voice coil gap. The speaker can reportedly handle an AES power capacity of 1,100W.
The UX-218A’s internal amplifier boasts 1,700W of Class-D power amplification output. Meanwhile, the fixed frequency switch mode output stage is described by the manufacturer as offering the ‘highest grade of audio accuracy’.
Remote monitoring is also a feature when used alongside the DASnet monitoring system and software.
