New VCube and Pyramix from Merging

Swiss manufacturer Merging Technologies has launched VCube V3, the latest version of its multi-purpose video player / recorder for the sound-for-picture workflow in film and television facilities.
VCube Version 3 offers the option of full support for Dolby E decoding and playback, Sony 9-pin (P2 Protocol) over IP and a completely re-written user manual.
VCube V3 can decode and play back Dolby streams now integral to audio transport in broadcast. A 48kHz stereo pair containing a Dolby E stream is placed on a VCube track and the tracks to be decoded selected from a drop-down menu. It uses Sony 9-pin over IP to synchronise with Pyramix allowing the DAW to control VCube.
It supports all standard and high-definition formats in NTSC, PAL and High Definition. The system can stream media files, OMF, AAF and FCP-XML compositions directly from a media server, bypassing the rendering stage for audio post production. Multi-layer compositions including different media types can be displayed in real-time. VCube can also embed the final mix audio into a new MXF, AVI or QuickTime file for delivery without decoding the original video.
Merging Technologies has also released Version 7 of Pyramix Virtual Studio. The latest version has a re-worked user interface, additional features and a ground-up rebuild of the Media Management system.
Multi-channel tracks and new Track Headers with direct access to effects controls enhance the Timeline. Automation curves are now coloured and new Automation sub-tracks enable multiple parameters to be displayed simultaneously. A new Sample Rate Conversion module, HeptaCon, offers processing in 64 bit float with filters and dithering algorithms. Media management and Library databases have been rebuilt completely and integrated with the SoundMiner FX library and search tool. With the new Final Check Metering option, Pyramix offers hardware metering, including ITU loudness.
The manufacturer has also announced its adoption of the Ravenna IP standard. It had been developing a proprietary Ethernet-based audio streaming protocol for the past two years and reports that it was a ‘natural progression to join forces with like-minded companies’ in the Ravenna consortium. The manufacturer expects Ravenna to become an extension connecting directly to its existing MassCore Processing and Mixing engine.
