Offering eight channels of Focusrite mic pre-amplification, the OctoPre MkII Dynamic now has new single-dial, VCA-based compressors on every channel.
The compressor circuit has been tuned by ear to model the sound of the Red 3, including accurately matching the shape of the Red 3’s knee. The compressor can be used to provide a clean, controlled sound while the ‘more’ switch doubles the ratio to deliver an ‘effect’ compressor.
The preamp circuits are the same as found in the Saffire Pro range of audio interfaces, with an especially fast transient response and tolerance for high SPLs. Onboard digital converters support eight channels of 96kHz, 24-bit digital audio to and from an Adat-equipped computer workstation or hard-disk recorder. The AD and DA converters can operate at common sample rates of up to 96kHz, with dual TOS link ports carrying the SMUX-compliant Adat signal to and from an audio interface, mixing console or hard-disk recorder. When running at 44.1kHz or 48kHz, the twin outputs are mirrored, so two Adat-equipped devices can be supported – a computer audio interface and a backup recorder, for example.
