Out-of-the-box stereo recording from Ear Trumpet Labs

A stereo microphone featuring two pre-assembled, medium-to-large condenser capsules mounted in individually pivoting heads has been introduced by US handmade microphone manufacturer, Ear Trumpet Labs. Named Evelyn, the microphone capsules are spaced at the correct distance for ORTF recordings. According to the manufacturer, the use of hand-matched and hand-wired components results in a ‘highly natural stereo sound’.

Promising ‘great feedback control and off-pattern noise rejection’, the all-in-one stereo model can be deployed as an overhead drum or room microphone. Alongside the dual-26mm capsules, the unit boasts internal shock dampers for minimal handling noise and fully-balanced FET circuitry. The unique configuration of the mic means that it ships with a special 5-pin XLR to dual 3-pin XLR pigtail cable. However, it is still compatible with standard 1-inch microphone stand clips.

Like all of the manufacturer’s microphones, the model is constructed from industrial materials such as plumbing flanges and stainless steel bolts.
