Pam Pico Touch leads TSL announcements

Leading a wealth of recent announcements from TSL Products is the Pam Pico Touch, a 7-inch multi-touch audio, loudness and logging meter described by the company’s Martin Dyster as ‘a must-have for anyone working in sound production’. The device tops a list of new arrivals that also includes the addition of SMPTE2020 metadata monitoring across all Pam Mk2 products, a new system controller for TallyMan and features for Soundfield’s DSF Digital Broadcast surround sound microphone.

The Pam Pico Touch allows the real time display and logging of all relevant loudness parameters, true peak level and corresponding peak channel identification, as well as critical integrated loudness information. Its 7-inch, multi-touch screen can display multiple metering and measurement elements simultaneously whilst the video confidence screen size can be scaled up and down in a similar way to a smartphone or tablet. Also onboard are user assignable soft ‘buttons’ for favourite presets.

Other features include an automated logging function, an HDMI external display output (which can be used in combination with a USB mouse), an Ethernet port for loudness logging over a network, and a headphone output.

Looking to the manufacturer’s wider Pam range, SMPTE2020 metadata monitoring and an automated downmix feature have been added as part of the Pam S2020 update, which is backwards compatible with all Pam MK2 systems.

The update equips all MK2 Pam products with the ability to extract S2020 Metadata, to display the key parameters within dedicated screen views and automatically downmix the discrete 5.1 audio channels to stereo using the associated LoRo Metadata values. Additionally, the update delivers a number of performance enhancements to both the Pam1 and Pam2 MK2 audio monitoring units. It is available as a free download from the manufacturer’s website.

Elsewhere, the TM1 MK2 system controller for TallyMan has been unveiled as ‘the most significant addition to the TallyMan range since its inception’. Boasting dual Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, it is intended to eliminate bottlenecks in broadcasters’ workflows. The 1U, 2.5kg unit includes dual redundant hot-swappable power supplies and isolated relays. It can be configured either from its front panel or via a local web page.

Finally the DSF Digital Broadcast surround sound microphone range from Soundfield (which was acquired by TSL in 2012) has been augmented with ‘major new features’.

Accordingly, the DSF-2 MKII digital surround and stereo microphone now offers the monitoring of all supplies plus microphone cable health. Detected errors are displayed on the front panel and in the SoundField Remote app, while error auto-correction is also incorporated. Physically, the mic now boasts a low-noise mic-pre design with 1dB gain steps and low-jitter clock circuitry.

The DSF-3 MKII digital surround processor, meanwhile, now supports a range of Object Based Audio formats, in addition to Stereo and 5.1. They include height information – 5.1 + 2, 5.1 + 4 and 7.1 + 2. The front panel has also been redesigned so it is now based around two LCD displays, with a lock-out function to avoid accidental changes. The DSF-B MKII system – encompassing the DSF-2 MKII microphone and DSF-3 MKII processor – performs B-Format reversal detection and autocorrection when connected. When a reversal between the two AES links is detected, this will be displayed and auto-corrected. Finally, both the DSF-2 MKII and DSF-3 MKII are now fully integrated into the SoundField Remote app, with both Ethernet and USB connectivity.
