Pandora digital panning integrated into Eclipse

Innovason has integrated the Pandora digital panning algorithm – first previewed more than a year ago at Pro Light & Sound 2012 – into its Eclipse and Eclipse GT digital consoles. The integration comes as part of the downloadable NOVA 2.4.0 software update.

Pandora has been designed to address the problem of panning in live situations with a large audience where people seated outside the centre of the PA zone do not hear the same mix of those seated in the middle. The enables panning with no loss of information from left to right.

It is described by Innovason product manager Hervé de Caro as making an ‘amazing difference to the listener. We have finally found a way to pan a signal from full left to full right to create the feeling of a stereo image for the entire audience, no matter where you are sat, without losing any information for those sat at the extremes, and no loss of sound quality for those sat in the middle’.

The system includes different panning curves for different widths of field and is available for use on any given input or master bus as required, enabling normal panning to be used on other mix busses.

Other inclusions in the NOVA 2.4.0 update comprise better support of AVM500 Matrix and other third party EtherSound devices and improved stability and reactivity of Neumann Digital Microphone control.
