Peavey focuses on speech

Peavey Commercial Audio has unveiled a DSP-based loudspeaker management system together with re-engineered commercial installation speakers for spoken word applications.

Starting off the launches is the VSXe series of speaker management processors that currently consists of the VSX26e and VSX48e models, providing 2-in/6-out and 4-in/8-out configurations respectively. Supporting 96kHz sample rate audio and equipped with a floating point DSP core and 24-Bit Delta-Stigma A/D and D/A converters, the processors come with up to nine bands of parametric EQ on both the input and output channels. As well as providing full control of the audio signal chain, other features include independent I/O gain in addition to high/low pass filters and delays on each channel up to 680ms. Although hands-on configuration can be accessed from the front panel, remote control is provided courtesy of a PC via the front panel USB port or from a GUI that receives its signal from the rear panel Ethernet connection. A security lock can fix settings and prevent access to the parameters.

Moving on, the main design criteria in re-engineering the SSE speaker series was to reproduce articulate and intelligible spoken word audio for lecture theatre and amphitheatre applications. Housed in birch plywood cabinets in either a black or white finish, the current range consists of five cabinets, a subwoofer and a monitor wedge. The two-way enclosures are capable of producing power handling up to 1,000W (programme) RMS and come with a wide range of mounting options to maximise flexibility of installation.
