Philips brings infinity colour mixing to Vari-lite spots

Boasting 25,000 and 35,000 lumens respectively, Philips Vari-lite has introduced two new luminaries named the 1200W VL4000 Spot and 1500W VL4000GT Spot. The high-output, low ambient noise models promise an infinity colour system, centre-to-edge focusing, and an ‘unprecedented’ contrast ratio.
According to the manufacturer, every aspect of the Series 4000 has been designed with performance in mind. Both luminaries feature a new cooling system alongside high-resolution optics. Both models include a 5:1 zoom reportedly able to cover 9- to 44-degrees without losing clarity.
The infinity mixing system provides CYM colour mixing, variable CTO colour temperature correction and dual five-position colour wheels capable of performing ‘smooth ‘ colour mixing or an instant snap. For image and beam control, the lights feature dual rotating gobo wheels that house a collection of optimised gobo patterns as well as the manufacturer’s chromatically tuned Dichro*Fusion effect.
Beams can be further modified via a four-blade shutter system and mechanical iris. An independent prism with divergence control and variable frost has also been implemented. Both models contain dimming flags, which when combined with independent shutter blades can provide strobing capabilities.
