Pointe leads Robe’s new launches

Moving light manufacturer Robe lighting recently launched a wealth of new products, the star of which is the new Pointe fixture. Weighing 15.2kgs, Pointe is a dynamic beam, spot and wash fixture that fully embraces Robe’s ‘smaller, lighter, brighter’ and more eco-friendly philosophy. Pointe boasts a sharp parallel beam in addition to a host of features designed to make it a versatile light source.

Key to its appeal is a 5- to 20-degree zoom with full focus control, variable frost, two separate prism effects, a rotating and a static gobo wheel and an inbuilt colour wheel. The light source is a 280W Osram discharge lamp, and as such Pointe is suited for both large and small-scale applications, whilst it also offers a quick speed in addition to zoom, linear, circular rotating prisms and rotating and static gobo wheels.

A custom developed homogeniser works with the rotating gobos to spread the light evenly and achieve optimum projection quality, and a variable frost effect transforms the output into that of an efficient wash light.

Also new from the manufacturer is the Robin MiniMe – an effects lighting luminaire with the addition of full video output. This compact, fast moving fixture is LED driven with a 20,000-hour lifetime source.

Colours, Gobos and beam shapes are all digitally generated by the on-board micro media server, and custom artwork, still photographs and video can be uploaded for projection – whilst live video can be streamed through the HDMI input.

Moving on to the Robin MMX Blade, this is a 1200-series equivalent light source utilising Robe’s MMX optical technology. The light comes complete with a framing shutter system of four fast ‘blades’ which can be individually positioned and angled plus or minus 45-degrees, with the whole Blade module capable of plus/minus 90-degree rotation, allowing for precise shaping and fine-spotting of specific areas on a stage.

The Blade system can also produce aerial effects when programmed into quick-movement chases and sequences, whilst an animation wheel enables the projection of dramatic fire, water, flame and other theatrical and environmental effects. In addition, it takes on hot-spot control, rotating gobos, CMY colour mixing, variable CTO, iris and a rotating prism.

The fourth new launch takes the form of the Robin CycFX, which is a 1m linear strip that can be tilted 270-degrees. Featuring an array of RGBW LEDs for smooth colour mixing and a zoom option that opens the spread out from 8- to 53-degrees, CycFX’s motorised tilt movement can be used to create a number of ‘wave’ effects along a line of fixtures.

Individual control of each LED makes the fixture map-able, and enables multiple CycFXs to be built in to a variety of matrix designs. The unit is supplied with many inbuilt pixel effects and pre-programmed sequences, and pre-selected colour macros facilitate easy integration into any lightshow.

Integrated tungsten whites are set at 2,700 and 3,200K and the CycFX comes with Robe’s tungsten emulation, including theatrical grade dimming and red-shift effect.

Lastly, the Robin Cyclone is an effects moving head product has an integrated fan in the centre of the head, surrounded by a ring of 24 RGBW multichip LEDs.

The Cyclone includes a zoom of 8- to 63-degrees on the LEDs features and a central airflow that can be combined with fog and haze. Meanwhile, its vari-speed fan can be independently DMX controlled, while each LED is individually controlled and can be pixel mapped for the creation of colour, rainbow and strobe effects.

Not limited to being combined with fog and haze, the Cyclone is equally suited for lighting and cooling performers from a ‘footlights’ position, and can also produce ‘hair-blowing’ and ‘smoke-through-the-fan’ effects.
