PreSonus Monitor Station v2 starts shipping

PreSonus is now shipping Monitor Station v2, representing what it describes as a ‘major redesign’ of its desktop studio monitor control system. The company has also announced the availability of SL Room Control software for free download to registered StudioLive AI-series loudspeaker owners.

Monitor Station v2 enables the desktop management of multiple audio sources and up to three sets of monitor speakers, providing an S/PDIF digital input and reportedly boasting a ‘more ergonomic, intuitive layout than the original Monitor Station’. Features include four stereo inputs (two pairs of balanced TRS and one pair of unbalanced RCA aux inputs with gain control) managed via a source-select switch. A ⅛-inch TRS unbalanced input is summed with the RCA aux inputs, while the S/PDIF stereo input supports 44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96kHz digital audio.

Meanwhile, three left/right pairs of balanced TRS speaker outputs and a Speaker Select switch enable users to A/B compare audio through up to three sets of reference monitors. A variable, rear-panel control also enables fine-tuned calibration of speaker output levels. Other outputs include a left/right pair of balanced TRS main outs, left and right balanced TRS cue outputs with level control, and four TRS stereo headphone outs, each with a main/cue source selector and individual level control.

Also onboard is a built-in talkback microphone offering variable input gain, an eight-segment, three-colour LED meter, a dim button with variable attenuation level, mono and mute buttons, an external DC power supply and rocker power switch.

Elsewhere, the free download of SL Room Control is described by PreSonus as ‘unlocking the full power of StudioLive AI-series loudspeakers’. The system control and performance monitoring software works either wirelessly or wired (Ethernet) over a LAN and runs under Mac OS X 10.7 and later, Windows 7 or 8, and iOS 7 and later for Apple iPad 2 or later.

Alongside in-depth monitoring of system performance, the software allows the customisation of each speaker on the network to compensate for room anomalies, the creation of delay systems, the elimination of feedback and more. Specific examples are a 500ms alignment delay (in 0.1ms increments); eight-band parametric EQ; eight notch filters, input-level control, mute and solo. It also allows the user to remotely select any of four DSP contours, as well as to save, edit, recall and share set-up parameters.
