Professional transducers that hit the highs and lows

RCF has released a trio of new additions to its range of Precision Transducers: one for the high frequencies, two for the lows.

The ND340 professional high frequency transducer is a neodymium compression driver. It features a polyimide diaphragm, 1-inch exit throat and 1.75-inch voice coil assembly, which utilises a high temperature Kapton former. With Continuous program power handling of 100W, a 1200Hz - 20kHz frequency range and a 2-slot geometry phase plug the ND340 is designed for use with compact 2-way systems, multiple-way systems and compact arrays, while offering a high frequency extension.

An extended low frequency transducer, the LF18N405 reportedly delivers ‘powerful and accurate bass frequencies with low distortion, low power compression and very high SPL’. It makes use of its fibre loaded cone assembly and large triple roll surround to offer strength and control, while also boasting a single spider system designed with a heavy cloth for added control to withstand large vibrations. To ensure minimal flux modulation, RCF has incorporated a T-pole design, while efficient voice coil ventilation and reduced power compression are offered by the unit’s dual-forced air venting magnetic structure system.

The manufacturer states that the LF18N405 is ‘designed for touring and perfect for high-quality professional bass reflex or bandpass enclosures’. It includes a 4-inch inside/outside copper voice coil, 3000W continuous program power handling, 97dB sensitivity and frequency range of 25Hz - 1kHz.

Meanwhile, the LF21N401 is ‘designed to provide powerful and accurate sub-bass frequencies with low distortion and low power compression with a fast time response’. In addition to a large triple roll surround, it houses a fibre loaded cone assembly. It maintains many of the characteristics of the LF18N405, although its sensitivity level is 98dB and its high BL of 27.6 T/m is described as providing a quicker and accurate low frequency.
