Pyramix moves to 64-bit

Several new features have been introduced into the latest version of Merging Tech’s Pyramix, including complete 64-bit architecture, a completely new mixer, Eucon 3 support, 64-bit VS3 and VST plug-ins and a fully integrated Virtual Transport 2.

The standout feature of Pyramix 9’s new mixer is the ability to view metering signal flow. With any strip (or group of strips) selected, signal flows are colour-coded and displayed in the peak meters. Users can then collapse the main mixer view to show only those mixes and busses being used for the selected part. Multiple busses can now be mixed down at once and a separate interleaved file can be created for each one. At the same time, users can check the loudness to make sure broadcast masters adhere to territorial regulations.

Pyramix’s MassCore audio engine now uses 64-bit architecture, removing the bottleneck that made memory-intensive projects problematic. With 64-bit, the system’s true real-time operation is now reportedly able to span not only hundreds of tracks, but also projects that can contain more edits, more automation, more plug-ins and span greater lengths than previous versions. However, move to 64-bit means that systems running 32-bit operating systems (such as Windows XP or Windows 7 32-bit) will need to upgrade before using Pyramix 9.

With the introduction of the 64-bit architecture, 64-bit VS3 and VST3 plug-ins can now be used. Merging’s Flux series of plug-ins has already been expanded with 10 new processors and effects. Support for Eucon 3 allows the software to integrate with Avid’s S6 and other Eucon compatible control surfaces.

Rounding of the list of new features, Virtual Transport 2 has been fully integrated into the Pyramix Chase Synchroniser allowing, for example, routing to the manufacturer’s VCube platform.
