Ravenna expands into the home with Merging and NADAC

Merging Technologies has hailed the arrival of the Network Attached Digital Analogue Converter, or NADAC, which it describes as a world first. Although primarily aimed at home cinema and audiophile applications, the converter is of note to professional markets for its use of the Ravenna protocol.
NADAC is derived from Merging’s Horus and Hapi family of Ravenna-enabled networked audio interfaces and is available in either stereo or 8-channel versions. The use of Ravenna – best known as a layer three, open-source audio-over-IP protocol aimed at the broadcast sector – is reportedly based on the protocol’s ‘extremely accurate clocking, high resistance to packet loss and extremely low latency’.
In an official announcement, Andreas Hildebrand, senior product manager at Ravenna developer ALC NetworX, described the protocol’s use in NADAC as ‘proof of concept for our open, standards-based solution approach’.
