Revamped digital automatic mic mixers from AKG

AKG recently launched the DMM6 and DMM12; a new ‘revamped’ line of digital automatic microphone mixers designed for live professionals in installed sound system applications. Working to deter noise pickup, the DMM series has been optimised to sense numerous sonic activities to monitor and diminish unwanted sound.
Embodying the technological advancements found in AKG’s AS8 analogue eight-channel auto mixer and its DMM4/2/4digital predecessors, the new line also boasts an intuitive user interface, numerous DSP functions and high signal to noise ratio.
DMM12 offers 12 inputs, while adjusting the mic to line level, and its four line outputs are individually assignable for each input. The stereo record outputs are individually assignable, while the headphone out port allows users to listen to each input and output individually.
Moving on to the DMM6, this offers six inputs and two line outputs at 1x stereo. When in use, all inputs are active, but attenuated to a level that equals the level of one ‘active microphone’. If two or more inputs receive relevant input signals, their amplification is increased to a level, which allows overall output to equal one ‘active microphone’, resulting in an absolute feedback-stable system.
Key to the series’ appeal is the way it deters noise pickup. If a signal is picked up over a long period of time, the mixers understand that it may be an air conditioning unit or other unavoidable noise. Similarly, when a large number of microphones pick up the same signal and all mics are active, the DMM system will recognise applause and not react. When two microphones are receiving the same signal, the mic with the slightly higher level gets priority, while the other one is attenuated.
AKG also recently unveiled the successor of its B18 condenser microphone battery power supply with the introduction of the B48 L. Boasting a low noise level, a frequency response of 20H-24Hz and an inverse polarity protection feature against incorrect battery insertion, the B48 L Battery Power Supply has been optimised to provide users with more than 20 hours of use on two AA batteries.
When phantom power for a condenser is unavailable from a mixer, the B48 L phantom power supplies microphones with 48V and meets the P48 phantom power standard. Additionally, B48 L’s mini-XLR audio output and included mini-XLR to mini-XLR connection cable supports a direct connection of condenser microphones to all AKG bodypack transmitters. A low battery LED light illuminates if phantom power drops below 40V.
Meanwhile, AKG has also introduced a new line of tabletop microphone stands for ‘all environments’.
ST6 is a heavy-duty table stand and due to its weight, absorbs shock and holds XLR microphones stable. Additionally, its internal cabling is well isolated to withstand EMC disturbances, including mobile phone frequencies.
The heavy-duty CGN321STS also works to keep the microphones stable, while absorbing any shock. Its 30cm gooseneck holds a condenser capsule with cardioid polar pattern of 120-degrees. Meanwhile, the switch has reportedly been put through more than 25,000 switching cycles in testing – and can be programmed for push-to-talk, push-to-mute, on/off or low cut on/off. An LED provides the user with the microphone’s status.
Finally, the STS DAM+ features the same functions as CGN321STS, but is compatible with four-pin DAM+ connector openings.
