Roland VR-3 integrates audio mixing and video switching
Published: PRODUCTS

Roland Systems Group has continued to expand its offering of A/V mixers with the arrival of the VR-3, a ‘unique’ product which fully integrates an audio mixer with a video switcher. Intended for live production and web streaming, the product is described by the manufacturer as ‘combining the power of Roland’s audio and video technology into one unit’.
The launch of the VR-3 follows the popularity of the larger VR-5, though the new product – including a video switcher, audio mixer, preview monitors and streaming-ready USB output – is significantly lighter and smaller. Weighing 2kg, the four-channel switcher/mixer is the size of an A4 piece of paper. The combination of its portability and ease of us is likely to prove particularly popular in the mid-range house of worship market. Other potential applications include schools, public meetings, corporate events, sports or production live to the web.
Among the features included on the VR-3 is a touchscreen interface, a built-in stereo microphone for mixing in ambient sound and a scan converter to enable PC input to be mixed with other video sources. Digital audio effects include noise gate, EQ, reverb and noise suppression, whilst compositing video effects include keying, split screen and picture-in-picture.
