Rycote targets location recording engineers with new equipment

Rycote’s new universal wireless receiver camera bracket is aimed at location recording engineers who want a quick-release, instant-access means of attaching their wireless mic receivers to a camcorder or video camera. The new bracket connects to the camera via either the standard quarter-inch female thread or, if that already has accessories attached, via the camera’s hot shoe, making use of one of Rycote’s milled brass thread and hot shoe adapters.
Two velcro straps hold the receiver (or receivers — two may be attached per bracket) in place on four soft-grip pads, part of the main bracket assembly. The straps are adjustable, allowing receivers of most shapes and sizes to be accommodated.
‘Certainly, you can gaffa-tape wireless microphone receivers to cameras, and most location audio and video recording engineers do,’ commented Rycote’s sales and marketing director Stefano Pucello. ‘But attaching the receiver isn’t fast, and taking it off is even slower, which could be a problem if one of your receivers develops a fault on location and you need to swap it fast. With the Velcro straps on our new bracket, you can get a defective receiver off the camera in seconds, and attach a new one equally fast.’
Also new from themanufacturer is a weatherproofing product aimed at location sound engineers. To its existing foam windshields for Lavalier and mini Lavalier mics, Rycote has added a water-repellent neoprene foam coating. According to Rycote, the new foams provide ‘excellent protection against water and wind noise in light rain and squally conditions, and will make it easier to obtain professional recordings even in inclement conditions, as well as extending the life of Lavalier mics used on location’.
Rycote has extended its range of Mini Windjammers for microphones, portable recorders, camcorder and video mics. Designed to drastically reduce wind noise when recording outdoors, the range was first launched in 2008.
Requests for bespoke tailored versions to fit the rapidly expanding range of mono and stereo portable recorders, camera and camcorder microphones soon resulted in the extension of the range to fit products from Roland, Tascam, Olympus, Sony, and Zoom.
The latest additions to the Mini Windjammer range include furry headgear for the Rode Video Mic Pro, and Roland R05, Tascam DR-07 MkII, and Zoom H1 portable recorders.
