Second generation firmware released for RTW touchmonitors

RTW has announced ‘substantial’ improvements to its TM7 and TM9 touchmonitors with the release of v2 firmware. Included among the new features are more realistic pointer instruments and the Loudness Range (LRA) instrument, which depicts the loudness range descriptor specified in EBU R128.
The latter feature has reportedly been included to facilitate ease of use among non-professional users. It is described by the manufacturer as offering ‘an extremely fast overview of the loudness features of any program segments’, combining loudness metering with LRA metering.
Other additions include a classic PPM-instrument view derived from RTW peak meters featuring gas-plasma displays, and a moving-coil instrument that implements various types of pointer instruments (including an M/S combo display) on the screen. A customisable global keyboard has also been integrated for issuing global start/stop/reset messages.
Alongside the new firmware, RTW has launched two rack-mountable versions of the TM7, the 20700-VID and 20700-3U, both of which have been designed for installation in waveform monitor frames and 3RU, 19-inch rack units respectively. Both models are technologically identical to the regular TM7 model, providing eight analogue and eight digital (AES3 or AES3id) ports, plus a front-panel USB port for preset import and export, license updates and firmware upgrades.
Finally, the manufacturer has revealed a new design for its SurroundControl Series, which now takes EBU/ITU loudness regulations into account. Alongside a ‘modern, sleek design’, the series now also boasts the LRA instrument as described above.
