Sennheiser aims MKH 8090 at orchestral recordings

Introduced by Sennheiser as ‘perfect of orchestral recordings’, the MKH 8090 wide cardioid condenser microphone is now available, marking the latest addition to the manufacturer’s popular MKH range.

The RF condenser microphone, which combines omni-directional and cardioid pick-up patterns – is intended as both a main and a spot microphone. Additionally, an optional screw-on module, the MZD 8000, can be used to convert it into a digital AES42 mic.

Among those involved in the microphone’s development was Gregor Zielinsky, international recording applications manager for Sennheiser, who explains that the aim during the model’s development was to ‘ensure that the sound perception of the microphone is precisely between that of the omni-directional MKH 8020 and the cardioid MKH 8040’.

The model also benefits from a range of accessories already available for the 8000 series, including microphone stands, clips, a shock mount, remote cables with different lengths, windshields and tools for ceiling mounting.
