Shure upgrades ULX-D with high density mode

Now incorporating Dante digital audio networking, Shure’s ULX-D digital wireless microphone system has also been upgraded with new multi-channel receivers and a high density mode that enables 47 systems to operate in just 6MHz of spectrum.

The new ULXD4D dual channel digital receiver and ULXD4Q quad channel digital receiver provide two or four channels of wireless respectively in a 1U rack space housing with individual gain controls, LED meters, and XLR outputs for each channel. Like the single-channel, half-rack ULXD4 digital receiver, the latest dual and quad receivers feature digital audio processing and RF transmission in addition to AES 256 bit encryption.

By selecting the high density mode, up to 47 ULX-D systems can be enabled to operate within 6MHz of spectrum, with a working range of up to 30m. This mode uses the system’s output power and digital RF filtering to reduce its spectral footprint from 350kHz to 125kHz, with reportedly no loss of sound quality.  As a result it allows other ULX-D systems to be tuned to frequencies that are much closer together without interfering with each other, so that in standard mode, up to 17 ULX-D systems can operate within 6MHz.

Equipped with integrated Dante digital audio networking, the ULXD4D and ULXD4Q receivers enable multiple channels of audio to be distributed to a variety of devices over a single Ethernet cable. Other features include body-pack frequency diversity, a rechargeable battery system and digital encryption.

Also new is the UA874 active directional antenna which incorporates an integrated amplifier for improved wireless signal reception. This new antenna features the ability to turn the amplifier off and provides the option to attenuate the signal, providing protection to the front end of the receivers.

Compatible with all Shure wireless receivers and antenna distribution systems that provide 12V DC bias, the UA874 uses a log periodic dipole array and the antenna produces a cardioid pattern toward the desired coverage area rejecting RF signals from the rear. Depending on the application, the UA874 can be stand-mounted, suspended from the ceiling or wall-mounted using the included swivel adapter bracket.
