Shures first ever digital wireless microphone system

Shure has unveiled the first digital wireless microphone system in the company’s history, the PGX Digital Wireless System.
The PGX adds 24-bit/48 kHz digital audio to PGX wireless products. Like its analogue sibling, the PGX Digital offers a range of system configurations for vocalists, guitarists, and presenters. Handheld systems have been designed specifically to match the sound signatures of microphone options such as the cardioid SM58 and supercardioid Beta58A. Aiding simple setup and operation, scan and sync set up automatically, where up to five systems can be used at once.
‘Working with wireless is becoming more challenging,’ said Erik Vaveris, category director for wireless products at Shure. ‘Because PGX Digital operates in the nationwide 900MHz band, users do not have to deal with TV channel allocations that change from city to city. Automatic frequency selection and one-touch sync between transmitter and receiver make setup a snap.’
Instrument systems come with either the Beta98H/C clip-on instrument mic or the WA302 guitar cable. Presenter systems include either the WL185 cardioid lavalier, WL93 omnidirectional lavalier, or PG30 headset.
Shure also introduced the Beta 181 – a side-address condenser microphone designed for discreet placement and control in live and studio environments. According to the manufacturer it features low handling noise and high gain before feedback, and the Beta 181’s small diaphragm design ‘provides audio with consistent polar responses in a form factor small enough to get close to the source’. The new model is Shure’s first wired performance microphone to feature interchangeable polar pattern capsules (cardioid, supercardioid, omnidirectional, and bidirectional).
The new model will be available in the following variations; Beta 181/C (cardioid), Beta 181/S (supercardioid), Beta 181/O (omnidirectional), and Beta 181/BI (bidirectional). Replacement capsules will also be available in four variations; RPM181/C (cardioid), RPM181/S (supercardioid), RPM181/O (omnidirectional), and RPM181/BI (bidirectional).
The new Beta 181 includes a stand adapter, windscreen, and carrying case.
