Solid State Logic presents X-Rack Stereo Dynamics module

Solid State Logic has announced the availability of a new X-Rack Stereo Dynamics module, which the manufacturer states ‘delivers the same sonic signature as the channel strip processing of the large format Duality console and the mono X-Rack SuperAnalogue Dynamics Module in a stereo configuration’.
The module is intended for stereo tracking or stem mixing and is being seen by the manufacturer as reaching further into the lucrative semi-professional recording mid-market.
‘When we first conceived of the AWS 948, we completed work on a stereo dynamics module to match the stereo input capability of the new console,’ explained Niall Feldman, director of new products for Solid State Logic. ‘Beyond the AWS 948, however, was the need for a stereo dynamics unit to round out the module offerings for X-Rack. We believe the industry will find this new module extremely valuable over a wide range of recording and mix applications.’
The Module is a stereo version of the manufacturer’s SuperAnalogue Dynamics Module, and boasts functions including compressor/limiter and expander/gate circuits. The compressor section can switch between a soft knee RMS compression to a more aggressive peak sensing or hard knee mode, providing a range of levelling control. Meanwhile, the secondary circuit can function as either a noise gate or an expander.
The feature set is completed by an external key input (mono), for triggering the unit from an external sound source while providing the ability for multiple adjacent units to be linked. Other specifications include a +4dBu operating level, dedicated gain reduction metering and balanced stereo line ¼-inch jack ins and outs.
Also new from the UK-based company, and further reaching into home recording, is the Nucleus DAW controller and SuperAnalogue audio hub, which SSL has dubbed ‘elegant and feature-packed’.
Intended for use in small studios or at home, the controller is described as ‘the perfect blend of workstation control and superb audio performance’ by its maker, while the unit is claimed to be the only product to feature a combination of advanced DAW control, transparent SuperAnalogue monitoring, high-class analogue mic preamps, a professional quality USB audio interface and bundled SSL Duende plug-ins.
In practice, the controller is compatible with Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo and all major DAW applications, and features two banks of eight-channel controls plus centre section controls, touch-sensitive 100mm motorised faders, four USB sockets allowing the unit to be operated as a four-port hub, and Digital Scribble Strips with assignable V-Pots and soft keys.
