Sony looks to improve large-scale visual solutions

Sony’s new Crystal LED integrated structure (Cledis) aims to re-work large-scale visual entertainment, implementing ultrafine LEDs into a surface mounting structure to create what the manufacturer describes as ‘a visual experience not possible with even the highest-end conventional LED array’.
The product is designed for commercial applications and use within a wide range of large spaces. The self-emitting display technology uses red, green, and blue ultrafine LEDs mounted on the display surface, with each pixel emitting light independently. According to the manufacturer each pixel is 0.003mm², allowing for a 99 per-cent black surface area and high contrast ratio in light and dark viewing environments. The technology has a viewing angle of nearly 180-degrees, with what the manufacturer describes as ‘corner-to-corner image uniformity in terms of brightness and colour, even on a large screen’.
The canvas has a brightness of 1,000 cd/m² and will support High Dynamic Range content, producing imagery with 10-bit colour depth and what Sony describes as ‘a wide colour gamut’. In addition, the scalable system consists of multiple display units that can be combined to create larger displays.
