SSL announces ‘groundbreaking’ A-FADA plus Pro-Station Duality

Describing it as ‘groundbreaking’, Solid State Logic has unveiled its new A-FADA automation system alongside a new version of its popular Duality console, named the Pro-Station.

First debuted on the AWS 948, A-FADA (which stands for Analogue Fader Accesses DAW Automation) uses DAW automation to drive the analogue faders of an SSL console.

Intended to combine ‘the sound of an SSL automated mix with the convenience of DAW tools and control’, A-FADA uses the same MDAC-driven faders on AWS and Duality consoles that currently allow users to switch between controlling the analogue signal levels or DAW faders. DAW automation is used to drive the MDAC faders on each channel, instead of the on-board automation system, to deliver a combination of workstation automation and analogue sound.

Crucially, the system can be retrofitted to all models of Duality console for a nominal charge.

Meanwhile, the Duality Pro-Station represents a new version of the manufacturer’s already highly successful Duality large-format console, adding new options. Chief among them is a winged layout to serve producers and engineers who wish to conduct DAW session editing/arrangement and audio mixing from a single central position.

The new shape was partly developed to enable the console centre section to accommodate a 27-inch Apple Cinema Display, which is mounted on an articulated gas arm for easy manipulation. As a result, the central position resembles a more traditional computer operating configuration. An HD webcam has also been mounted on the rear of the screen to allow users to effectively ‘see through’ the display into the recording area.
