SSL brings digital automation to analogue consoles plus Live v3

Solid State Logic has added an analogue automation platform named δelta-Control (δ-Ctrl) to its Duality and AWS consoles, renaming the desks accordingly as the Duality δelta and AWS δelta. The technology – which takes the form of a plug-in – is described by the manufacturer as allowing ‘automation of the console as if it were a DAW plug-in’.
While all new Duality and AWS consoles will be δelta models, upgrades are also available for preceding models. Via the plug-in (inserted into a DAW mixer audio channel), the automation system in the DAW is used to record and playback control data from the faders and switches on the console. Notably, audio on the DAW track passes through the plug-in slot unprocessed, meaning the plug-in can be combined with others. The console’s faders, mutes and relevant switches are represented as parameters in the δ-Ctrl plug-in GUI.
Also new from the manufacturer is an updated version of the Listen Mic Compressor, named LMC+, which can now be used with 500 format racks. New features include a pair of variable high-pass and low-pass filters; a ‘filters-to-compressor’ side chain and wet/dry blend control; a ‘scoop’ button and a ‘split’ feature which engages a band-pass subtraction mode.
Finally, SSL has bolstered its live offering with v3 software for the SSL Live console range. The update is described as incorporating over 40 new features including an increase in mix paths from 192 to 256 (128 to 192 for the L300), plus a doubling of effects processing power, depending on the effects selected.
Also onboard is Super-Q, the next generation of SSL’s Query workflow function, with two modes – ‘compressed’, which shows a focused view of just the audio paths contributing to or from the queried path, and ‘expanded’, which displays user-defined layers and banks. An offline editor has also been incorporated in the form of the SSL Offline Setup Application, and a Dante card option is now available. Other features include a 48kHz mode to facilitate integration, for which the new 5.1 and 4.0 audio path formats have been introduced; a surround panner plus multichannel fold-down options; solo dim mode; VCA control of matrix channels and a stereo version of the fixed point per octave analyser (FPPO-lyser).
