State of the art upmixing in Wohler AMP2-16V

The Wohler AMP2-16V audio mixer and router for broadcasters now includes ‘state of the art’ upmixing courtesy of Linear Acoustic’s Upmax mixing technology.

The AMP2-16V was introduced at IBC 2010 as a modular SDI-centric audio mixer and router with a suite of tools aimed at managing signal level, loudness, Dolby program streams, transmission chain audio insertion and emergency troubleshooting. The unit is seen as moving Wohler into direct transmission chain management, while the inclusion of the Upmax enables the AMP2-16V to convert stereo signals into 5.1 channel surround sound.

Included within the mixer/router’s design are dual 4.3-inch OLED displays that support dedicated video monitoring, loudness metering and control, audio mixing and routing, and Dolby Zoom functions. Other features include ‘robust’ metering and monitoring features, plus modular I/O options including 3G/HD/SD-SDI, AES, and analogue.

Also newly announced from Wohler is the Pandora Loudness Monitor, which is described by the manufacturer as ‘the perfect solution to ensure content is ITU-1770 and -1771 compliant’. The Pandora monitor – using a touchscreen interface – analyses digital audio from two to eight channels and from SDI or AES, allowing the operator to set reference level, gating, integration time, metering modes and the number of channels. Standard presets are available for reference level and Dolby-formatted multi-channel loudness contribution schemes, alongside user-configurable settings. However, the unit requires an iPod which much be purchased separately.

IBC 2010 also saw the launch of the Presto 16x1 audio/video switcher, which builds on the success of the manufacturer’s larger Touch-It Digital. Targeted at broadcasters migrating to server-based playout and centralisation, the Presto accepts 16 3G/HD/SD-SDI streams, all displayed on touchscreens that have been included to make, says Wohler, ‘it almost impossible to select the wrong source by mistake’. Pressing one of the screens switches that channel to a pair of reclocked outputs for routing and/or monitoring on a larger device.

Finally, the first in a new modular line of Rockridge video monitors with 3G/HD/SD-SDI support and MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding has been announced. Options such as in-picture level metering, waveform and vectorscope display are available in the monitor, while additional options may be added at a later date. Multiscreen models allow operators to view either four separate or a mix of images and monitoring tools such as waveform, vectorscope or the PID table, which reportedly functions much like a table of contents for a given stream. Connectivity for the new Rockridge monitors includes 3G, SDI, component, composite, DVI and GPI inputs, as well as dual-input SDI with loop through for each.
