Studio One 2.5 promises ‘nearly 100 enhancements’

PreSonus has released the latest iteration of its Studio One DAW, promising a substantial number of improvements and bug fixes plus new features. Free to existing users of Studio One 2, the new update applies to all versions of the software including Studio One Artist, Producer, Professional, and Free.

The update is described by the US manufacturer as building on the features of Studio One 2, ‘completing and enhancing’ that version’s functionality. Among the features are single-swipe comping with automatic beaming into parts, folder track editing to simplify workflow, the ability to turn complex multi-output virtual instruments into audio tracks and back again, and a complete overhaul of Ampire XT with reworked amp models.

The manufacturer is also promising easier and faster editing of automation envelopes plus an enhanced audio exporting system supporting multiple outputs at once. A complete new feature is the ability to re-record from buses, meaning users can use the output of virtual instruments or bus channels as the input to an audio track. Finally, the system’s drag and drop workflow has been streamlined, built-in parallel processing on PreSonus native effects has been added and end-users can now instantly apply or remove legato from MIDI tracks.

Meanwhile all owners of Studio One Producer and Professional can now download a free copy of Softube's Saturation Knob plug-in, supplied as a Studio One extension.

In other PreSonus news, the company has announced version 1.7 of its Universal Control software, which it says boasts a ‘significant expansion’ of the Rational Acoustics Smaart measurement technology incorporated in its Virtual StudioLive (VSL) section (originally added in a more basic form in v1.6).

The 1.7 update means that StudioLive 24.4.2 and 16.4.2 owners can take advantage of three new Smaart system-check wizards in VSL. (The wizards are not available on the 16.0.2 due to its different architecture.)

The first of the wizards is Smaart Room Analysis, an automated process to guide users through acquiring a frequency-response trace which is then overlaid on the VSL display for a StudioLive 24.4.2 or StudioLive 16.4.2 Fat Channel parametric EQ. Next is Smaart System Delay, which calculates and sets the correct amount of delay time between two full-range speaker systems, using the StudioLive's subgroup-output delays. Lastly, Smaart System Output Check will verify that outputs are routed correctly and are passing signal.
