The D80 from d&b

d&b audiotechnik has released the D80 amplifier. Designed to accompany d&b’s range of high power loudspeakers, the D80 is a four channel amplifier incorporating DSP to provide loudspeaker specific configurations and functions. It has been designed for mobile or installation applications.

The high power D80 amplifier is available in a 2RU design. Each of the four channels feature a signal delay of up to 10s and two 16-band equalisers – providing parametric, notch, shelving and asymmetric filters. Additionally, specific functions for d&b loudspeakers, such as CUT (Cut mode), CPL (Coupling), HFC (High Frequency Compensation) and CSA (Cardioid Sub Array) are included as well as selectable output configurations – dual channel, mix TOP/SUB and two-Way Active. Both analogue and digital inputs and links are provided.

All four outputs can deliver up to 4000W into 4-ohms and are distributed through the single NL8 connector, or individual loudspeaker outputs. The LoadMatch function electronically compensates for loudspeaker cable properties, without the need for an extra conductor. d&b claim this results in increased accuracy of audio reproduction over a bandwidth of up to 20kHz, preserving  tonal balance when using cable lengths of up to 70m.

The Class-D amplifier uses a switch mode power supply with active Power Factor Correction (PFC) suitable for mains voltages. This makes the output of the D80 largely independent from voltage variations caused by poor electrical sources and reportedly ensures optimum performance can be maintained when running from heavily loaded mains supplies.
All features and functions can be controlled via the TFT colour touch screen and rotary encoder on the front panel. The D80 also integrates with the d&b remote network via the established CAN-Bus or Ethernet connections, using the Open Control Architecture protocols. The d&b R1 remote control software provides a workspace where all features, functions and controls available on the front panel can be remotely grouped, monitored and managed.
New versions of the d&b ArrayCalc simulation software, and the d&b R1 remote control software also support the D80 amplifier.
