The InVision Studio Kit from Rycote

Rycote revealed its new complete microphone mount and vocal pop filter system at this year’s NAMM show.

Dubbed the ‘Rycote InVision Studio Kit’, it’s a complete suspension and pop filter system that the manufacturer reports will accommodate almost any large-diaphragm vocal microphone, and also allows mics to be swapped without the need to change the suspension and pop filter at the same time.

The Rycote InVision Universal Studio Mount (or USM) launched at last year’s NAMM, makes up one of the components of the new Studio Kit. The USM is a non-elasticated microphone suspension that will accommodate any large-diaphragm microphone from 18 to 55mm in diameter thanks to a four-screw locking system. Rycote claims the non-elasticated suspension elements of the USM, (the Rycote Lyres) will never sag or need rethreading like traditional elasticated mic mounts.

The other component in the Studio Kit is the Rycote InVision Universal Pop Filter. The pop filter’s frame is designed for placement near the mouth and face of a vocal artist, and fits a specially manufactured acoustic foam mesh filter, which can be removed for cleaning or replacement. The custom-manufactured mesh is capable of providing low-frequency vocal pops and thumps attenuation by up to 20dB. The Universal Pop Filter fits onto the outer ring of the USM, but will also clamp onto virtually any existing mic suspension. This is made possible by its universal screw-based locking clamp, similar to the ones employed in the USM, which can be tightened to provide a fit on bars or tubular supports with a wide range of diameters.

Rycote has also added three telescopic carbon-fibre boom poles to its range of accessories for broadcast and location sound recordists; the 1.63m G3 with three sections and the 2.49m G5, with five sections. The G5 is available in two versions, a standard version, and one with an internal coiled cable and built-in Neutrik XLR connector in the hilt.

Following its takeover of US boom pole manufacturer Lightwave Audio, Rycote has been selling telescopic boom poles under the Lightwave name. However, with the launch of the Rycote-branded G-series carbon-fibre poles, the entire range, including the A3 and A5 aluminium poles, will now be rebranded as Rycote products.

The new G3 and G5 feature the same patented triple-cam ‘grip and twist’ locking system as the A3 and A5 poles, and no metal parts to add to the weight. The G3 weighs just 360g, the standard G5 is 580g, while the G5 with internal cable weighs 720g.
