TouchMonitor heads to the desktop

Over a busy couple of months for RTW, the German manufacturer has debuted several new and updated products. These include a suite of loudness plug-ins, an update to its RP-1, and to complement its TouchMonitor range of audio meters, the new TM3-Primus.

The TM3-Primus is the latest TouchMonitor to grace the series. The desktop unit is a full-featured device with a minimal footprint that includes analogue and digital audio interfaces on the hardware, as well as a 4.3-inch touch-sensitive display. Targeted at music and multimedia producers, it features a USB hybrid mode where a metering point in a digital audio workstation (implemented using a specific RTW plug-in) is visualised on the TouchMonitor’s screen to provide everything necessary for loudness and audio metering.

Also recently debuted is the manufacturer’s Masterclass plug-ins series, providing software versions of its metering tools as standard-format plug-ins for Windows and Mac OSX platforms. Starting the series off is the RTW Loudness Tools package, which depicts audio with all relevant level and loudness values as specified by international standards and conforms to the EBU R128 loudness standard, as well as SPL, ITU-R BS.1770-3/1771-1, ATSC A/85, and ARIB; making it suitable when working with broadcast audio.

The plug-ins support standard sampling rates up to 96kHz, offering plug-in operation in mono, stereo and surround formats. The user-interface is based upon the company’s TouchMonitor TM7 and TM9, and should therefore remain intuitive for existing users. The Loudness Tools package consists of RTW’s Peak Program Meter, TruePeak, and Spot Correlator instruments.

The manufacturer has also been showcasing its LQL – Loudness Quality Logger software. Compatible with TM7 and TM9, LQL measures loudness and TruePeak data, derived via an IP-connection to a TouchMonitor or alternatively, from external storage media such as a USB stick. The software also includes dual limit weighting, status information, markers, and various other reporting features. It is available free to users, however a SW20014 Logging Data Server licence is required to enable a TouchMonitor to be compatible with data export and additional display functions.
