TSL presents ‘new platform for audio monitoring’

With the bold declaration that it is presenting ‘a brand new platform for multi-channel audio monitoring’, TSL has introduced the PAM2 MkII monitor.
Also known as the PAM2 3G16 MK2, the new unit – built on the foundation of the company’s PAM2 monitor – includes an SDI output connection to export display information to an external video monitor, a front-panel USB port for preset save/recall management and an Ethernet port.
It is also one of the first audio monitoring solutions to feature Dolby’s CAT1100 module, a new platform for decoding and monitoring of Dolby audio formats used throughout the HD broadcast chain (including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital and Dolby E). The module will reportedly enable the PAM2 MK2 to perform Dolby E decoding and external speaker monitoring, as well as Dolby Digital Plus with surround descriptive audio and stream mixing.
Further features are also planned for inclusion in the monitor via updates including dialogue intelligence loudness measurement, simultaneous multichannel and stereo outputs.
Also new from the manufacturer, meanwhile, is the TallyMan VP (Virtual Panel) touchscreen interface, which is designed to simplify control of multiple router I/Os.
A software-based control platform designed to work in conjunction with TSL’s TallyMan tally management system, TallyMan VP is intended to remove the need to install individual hardware panels each time a router is added, expanded or upgraded. It can also interface with any third-party router, vision mixer or multi-viewer, thereby creating a ‘universal’ control for operators who don’t need to be aware of source paths. The panel also allows users to switch equipment on and off remotely, while offering heightened security for positions with limited functionality.
Finally, the Touchmix Pilot desktop remote system has been introduced. Comprising a new desktop remote panel with rack-mount host unit, the system reportedly provides one-touch access to any analogue or digital audio source material in mono, stereo or surround, whilst allowing for the adjustment of levels and balance and delivering the capability to mix together multiple sources.
TSL has designed the system, the company says, ‘to help broadcasters empower creative operators with a more flexible and convenient control platform’.
