The CX-500Du is an upgraded version of JTS Professional Co ltd’s CX-500 violin microphone. The patent-pending product deploys dual transducers and has been optimised for use with a variety of string instruments, although the manufacturer insists that it is equally as applicable to any instrument that requires dual miking.

Each transducer has its own frequency response, the benefit of this being that the hidden one picks up vibrations that may not otherwise be clearly audible, whilst the outer one uses air to pick up the instrument’s sound.

A user can adjust the balance between the two transducers through a battery/phantom PS-510 power supplier that provides selectors between 9V and 52V phantom power, as well as line and mic level outputs. In addition to a mute switch, the CX-500Du offers two four-pin mini XLR inputs and one three-pin XLR output.

Crucially, the CX-500Du has been manufactured with materials that ensure an instrument won’t become scratched.
